Three Tips To Make A Great First Impression

As the old saying goes, “You only get one chance to make a first impression.” First interactions often have a lasting impact on a relationship. So, whether you’re at work or just socializing, here are some tips for starting off on the right foot:1. Align Your Attire with the Occasion.
The same suit and tie that will impress clients at the office can make you seem standoffish or stodgy at a casual social event. However, dress “business smart” for a job interview – even at a company with a casual company culture. Informal interview attire can give the impression you’re not serious about the job.

2. Be Friendly, But Don’t Overdo It.
When meeting someone, be friendly without coming across as eager or desperate. Complimenting someone is a great way to start a conversation, if done appropriately. (Avoid commenting on someone’s physical attributes.) Humor can work, too, but tread carefully. Read the room and proceed accordingly.

3. Pay Attention to Body Language.
If someone’s avoiding eye contact, turning away, not responding, or giving very short answers, these are signals that they would rather not continue the conversation. Take their cues and wrap up the conversation gracefully.
